31 March 1952: The library’s move from its emergency accommodation
in the ‘Englervilla’ to two storeys on the south side of the Botanic
Museum is complete. In contrast to the pre-war period, from
now on it is open as a special library to all interested parties; from
1953 the library reports its holdings to the Berliner Gesamtkatalog
and takes part in German and international inter-library loans.
4. August 1953: Band 1 Heft 1 der „Mitteilungen aus dem
Botanischen Garten und Museum Berlin-Dahlem, früher
Notizblatt“, erscheint. Die eigene Zeitschrift, ab Heft 2
„Willdenowia“ genannt, ermöglicht wieder internationalen
Schriftentausch zum Erwerb von Periodika.
4 August 1953: Publication of volume 1, number 1 of the Mitteilungen
aus dem Botanischen Garten und Museum Berlin-Dahlem,
früher Notizblatt (Proceedings of the Berlin Botanical Garden
and Museum, formerly Notes). Called Willdenowia from issue
number 2 onwards, publication of the journal makes it possible
to start exchanging periodicals with other institutions once again.

16. Januar 1954: Richtfest für den Wiederaufbau des straßenseitigen
Flügels des Botanischen Museums. Im Lauf
des Jahres sind Arbeits-, Bibliotheks- und Laborräume im
so genannten „Arbeitsflügel“ wieder voll benutzbar. Der
Museumsflügel ist seit 1953 aufgrund der Wiederaufbauarbeiten
für das Publikum geschlossen.
16 January 1954: Topping-out ceremony for the reconstruction of
the street-side wing of the Botanical Museum. During the course of
the year, workrooms, library rooms and labs in the so-called ‘works
wing’ are fully usable again. The museum wing had been closed to
the public since 1953 for reconstruction works.
1. April 1954: Dienstantritt von Eva Potztal, der ersten fest
angestellten Wissenschaftlerin. Ab Frühjahr 1959 leitet sie
den Neuaufbau des Schaumuseums.
1 April 1954: Eva Potztal, the first permanently employed female
scientist, takes up her post. From spring 1959 she is in charge of
the reconstruction of the Schaumuseum.
Sommer 1954: Der erste „Führer durch das Freiland“ nach
dem Krieg erscheint.
Summer 1954: Publication of the first guidebook to the open land
(Führer durch das Freiland) to appear since the war.
