Winter 1916/1917: Kriegsbedingter Mangel an Arbeitskräften,
Kohlenmangel und Teuerung machen sich so
stark bemerkbar, dass der Betrieb des Gartens empfindlich
eingeschränkt werden muss. Man verzichtet sogar auf die
(energieintensive) Kultivierung des Publikumslieblings,
der Riesenseerose Victoria amazonica.
Winter 1916/1917: Understaffing, inflation and a lack of coal
due to the war make themselves so keenly felt that the operation
of the garden has to be sensitively scaled down. The (energy-intensive)
cultivation of the public’s favourite, the giant waterlily
Victoria amazonica, has to be abandoned.
18.–23. September 1917: Mehrere Tausend Personen besuchen
die Pilzausstellung des Botanischen Museums, die
seit 1914 jährlich im Herbst abgehalten wird. Museum und
Garten beraten Behörden und Privatleute bei der Auswahl
und Verwendung pflanzlicher Ersatzstoffe für Nahrungs-
und Futtermittel, Öle und Fette, Seifenersatz, Genussmittel
und Gespinstfasern.

November 1918: Auf Veranlassung der provisorischen Regierung
erfolgt die Wahl eines Arbeiterausschusses durch
Arbeiter und Angestellte des Gartens und Museums.
