Unlike in Paris, London or Vienna, hardly any sumptuously produced,
de luxe botanical works were published in Berlin over the
course of the centuries, one of the few exceptions being the large
format Flore portugaise. Compiled by Link and Johann Centurius,
Count of Hoffmannsegg and finished in 1840, it can be considered
the first richly illustrated presentation of the flora of Portugal.
In later years Link increasingly turned his attention to anatomical
and philosophical questions, as is evident from the titles of his
two last great publications: Anatomia plantarum iconibus illustrata
and Die Philosophie der gesunden Vernunft (The Philosophy
of Healthy Reason). HWL

1799–1804 die nördlichen Teile Südamerikas, Mexiko
und Kuba sowie im Jahre 1829 das Russische Reich, wobei
er bis an die chinesische Grenze vordrang. Langjähriger
Kammerherr der Könige von Preußen und erster Kanzler
des Ordens ‚Pour le Mérite‘.
Gilt als einer der Pioniere der naturkundlichen Erforschung
Süd- und Mittelamerikas, wo er bis heute große
