The Specimen primum is all that appeared. Allioni (1728–1804), physician and professor of botany at the University of Turin, is known for his study of the flora in the Piedmont region in northern Italy. This is his first publication on the subject. The attractive plates were drawn by Francisco Peyroleri and engraved by Pietro Peyroleri. The letters he sent to his friends during this period were first published in 1764 and 1765 in the Hannover Magazin and in 1776 as this beautiful new corrected, enlarged and first illustrated edition of his correspondence appeared, including many notes by Jakob Samuel Wyttenbachs and 15 excursions by Swiss scholars. – Added are over 90 engravings from various sources, collected by Alb. describes and illustrates (in the 87 woodcuts) the remarkably wide variety of glassware, furnaces and other equipment used for distillation. With the owner’s signature on the title-page of the Augsburg physician and medical author Veit Riedlin (1628–1668), and a couple of brief passages underlined in ink. In very good condition, complete with the two blank leaves and with good margins (the foredge nearly untrimmed) and with only occasional marginal water stains or spotting.
