Tønnes Christian Bruun-Neergaard (1776–1824)<br />
was a Danish traveller and art historian. He travelled<br />
through Europe with Naudet, his landscape<br />
artist, to collect views and pictures of their journeys.<br />
An early lithographic work of great quality.<br />

First English edition of this scarce account of Bourrit’s<br />
journey to the Alps. Marc-Theodor Bourrit<br />
(1739–1819) is known to be a pioneer of alpinism,<br />
in spite of his aversion to heights. Contrary to Saussure<br />
or Deluc, he was neither a scientist nor an<br />
aristocrat, but a Swiss painter, and his talent as an<br />
illustrator allowed him to publish some successful<br />
works. The present book is «the fruit of three<br />
journeys into the Dutchy of Savoy», and was first<br />
published in Geneva (1773), it was followed by a<br />
