Von der Stadt zum Haus From City to Building In kurzen Gruppenübungen werden verschiedene Ebenen und charakteristische Teile der Stadt analysiert. Drei Bauplätze unterscheiden sich grundlegend in ihrer städtebaulichen Ausgangslage: Die Kantonsschule am Rande der Altstadt, die Walche-Neumühle im Quartier Unterstrass und die Hochhausgruppe Bauhof im Zentrum von Oerlikon. Die unterschiedlichen Bedingungen führen zu einer Sensibilisierung der Wahrnehmung des komplexen Phänomens Stadt als Kontext für den architektonischen Entwurf. Einzelne architektonische Elemente des Hauses werden untersucht, um das Bewusstsein für deren Bedeutung in der Stadt zu entwickeln und das Haus als Teil der Stadt zu begreifen. Je ein bestehender Gebäudekomplex in den untersuchten Stadtteilen war Gegenstand eines Umbauprojektes für ein Hotel mit Kongresszentrum. In einem ersten Schritt wurde die vorhandene Gebäudestruktur auf ihre Eignung für das Programm hin untersucht. Die daraus gewonnenen Erkenntnisse dienten als Entscheidungsgrundlage im Umgang mit der Gebäudesubstanz für Umbau, Ersatz oder Erweiterung von Gebäudeteilen und strukturellen Eingriffen. Three selected building sites create different starting positions: The site of the Kantonsschule at the edge of the old city center, the site of the Walche- Neumühle in the district of Unterstrass und the area of the Bauhof towers in the center of Oerlikon. The different conditions sharpen the awareness of the city as a complex phenomenon in terms of architectural design. Individual architectural elements are studied in order to increase the consciousness of their significance for the city. This permits a better understanding of the buildings as integral parts of the city. A building complex in each of the areas of study was the object of a renovation project to house a hotel and a congress center. A first step was to study the suitability of the existing building for this purpose. The diagnosis served as the decisive factor for dealing with the building structure in order to change, substitute or expand the architectural parts. 2. Jahr Departement Architektur Dietmar Eberle

Jahr Departement Architektur Kantonsschule/Altstadt Andres Herzog Learning by doing Learning by doing Anhand der gesammelten Erkenntnisse des Wintersemesters und aus den verschiedenen Betrachtungen des Kontextes entwerfen die Studierenden ein Gebäude mit mehreren Nutzungsüberlagerungen und einer Kombination von gross- und kleinteiligen Räumen. Es gilt, das umfangreiche Raumprogramm für ein Internat mit Klassentrakt und Doppelturnhalle in ein kohärentes architektonisches Konzept umzusetzen. Das Gebäude soll sich sowohl mit Innen- als auch mit Aussenräumen differenziert auseinandersetzen. Wieder standen die drei sehr unterschiedlichen Standorte innerhalb der Stadt Zürich für eine Intervention zur Verfügung. 40 By using the knowledge and the different perceptions of the context acquired during the winter semester the students design a building with many overlapping functional uses. The spatial allocation comprises a combination of large and small spaces. The goal was to translate an extensive program for a building complex including a boarding school, classrooms and two gyms into a coherent architectural concept. The building should demonstrate a differentiated approach to both the exterior as well as the interior. The three diverse locations within the city of Zurich were again used for the intervention.
