It is an extraordinary pleasure for me to be here this evening to congratulate you
on the achievement of the formal opening of the Stiftung Erinnerung Ulm, particularly
my dear friend Silvester Lechner, and to bring greetings from my two New York
colleagues, Frank Stella and Richard Meier.
I first give greetings on behalf of Frank Stella, with whom I spoke just three days ago.
He asked me to extend his warmest personal congratulations to you on this accomplishment,
and particularly to acknowledge the hard work of the staff. Frank Stella
also reiterated his support for this most important project, and his hopes that the
project will go from strength to strength.

Richard Meier sent the following message:
As you know, I have a long history of involvement with the city of Ulm, in the creation
of the Münsterplatz and the Stadthaus in the heart of this extraordinary place. It is
therefore very gratifying to know that the Stiftung Erinnerung Ulm will be able to
function to educate and memorialize the horrors of the holocaust. The absurdity of evil
during that dark period fifty years ago has made an indelible mark on us all. I wish to
pay tribute to you and the Foundation for your work in support of this admirable cause.
