UNESCO Welterbe RhB
Auf 122 Kilometern durch 55 Tunnels und über
196 Brücken: Die Albula / Berninalinie der Rhätischen
Bahn ist ein Meisterwerk der Ingenieurskunst.
Zusammen mit der Landschaft ergibt
sich daraus ein einzigartiges UNESCO Welterbe.

Platz nehmen und staunen: Im Bernina Express
wird die Schönheit der Alpen vollkommen erfahrbar.
Von Chur, der ältesten Stadt der Schweiz,
fährt der Zug durch die burgenreichste Gegend
Europas (Abbildung 1 ). Von hier geht es
durch die finstere Schinschlucht und über den
rund 90 Meter hohen Solisviadukt 2 ins wildromantische
Albulatal, wo der weltbekannte
Landwasserviadukt 3 wartet, der mitten in
eine senkrechte Felswand hineinführt. Über
grandiose Kunstbauten und Kehrtunnels geht
es weiter in die Höhe, bis sich nach dem Albulatunnel
das Engadin 4 in voller Pracht zeigt.
Dies ist der Festsaal der Alpen, hier liegt auch
das mondäne St. Moritz! Im Bernina Express
geht es noch höher hinauf, vorbei an der
mächtigen Gletscherwelt des Berninamassivs
5 . Beim Lago Bianco 6 wird die grenzenlose
Freiheit der Berge erst recht spürbar! Und doch
lockt tief unten bereits der Süden 7 und so
geht es von mehr als 2 200 Meter Höhe kurvenreich
hinab ins Puschlav und über den berühmten
Kreisviadukt von Brusio 8 bis nach
Tirano 9 . Atemberaubend schöne Landschaften
und Meisterleistungen der Ingenieurskunst
finden so auf der ganzen Strecke zusammen.

Running along 122 kilometres of track, passing
through 55 tunnels and over 196 bridges and
viaducts, the Albula / Bernina lines are a masterpiece
of engineering. Its combination with
the surrounding landscape is what constitutes
its recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Just take your seat and prepare to be astounded.
The Bernina Express lets you experience
the beauty of the Alps. From Chur, the oldest
town in Switzerland ride, the train travels
through an area containing Europe’s highest
density of castles (illustrated 1 ). The journey
continues through the dark and mysterious
Schinschlucht Gorge, followed by the ninetymetre-high
Solis Viaduct 2 , which carries the
line into the wild and romantic valley of Albulatal,
where the world-famous Landwasser
Viaduct 3 awaits to plunge the train into a
world of towering rock walls. The train climbs
up over grandiose man-made structures and
through sinuous tunnels, before emerging
from the Albula Tunnel into the glory that is
the region of Engadin 4 . This is the heavenly
ballroom of the Alps, including as it does such
attractions as the cosmopolitan resort of
St. Moritz. The Bernina Express climbs ever
higher, to roll past the Bernina region’s mighty
glaciers 5 . When the train reaches Lake Bianco
6 , the true majesty of this mountainous
setting becomes apparent in all its full-blown
glory. And there are more attractions to come,
this time of a southern nature 7 , as the train
follows its curving route down from above
2 200 metres in height towards Poschiavo.
This part of the line takes the train over the
famous Circular Viaduct of Brusio 8 and onward
to the Italian town of Tirano 9 . The
entire line is characterised by a series of
breathtaking landscapes, interspersed with
impressive masterpieces of the art of civil engineering.

onwards from Tirano, through the vineyards

aria del sud e lustrarvi gli occhi con suggestive
vedute? A Lugano 10 ha inizio il viaggio nel bus
Bernina Express. Il percorso si snoda lungo il
lago di Como, sulle cui sponde sorgono suggestivi
paesini, per giungere ai vigneti della Valtellina
a Tirano 9 .

Prendete posto e preparatevi a stupirvi: a
bordo del Bernina Express il fascino delle Alpi
si tocca con mano. Qui inizia la vera scoperta
delle montagne, resa perfettamente godibile
dalla treno panoramico del Bernina Express.
Vi attende già il famoso viadotto elicoidale di
Brusio 8 , l’intera magnifica tratta che, passando
per la Valposchiavo, si inerpica fino ad
un’altezza di 2200 metri sul livello del mare.
7 Con il Bernina Express si sale ancora più in
alto, sfiorando i possenti ghiacciai del massiccio
del Bernina. Al Lago Bianco 6 si ha davvero
la sensazione di poter toccare con mano la
sconfinata, imponente vastità del paesaggio
alpino. Benvenuti nel salone delle feste delle
Alpi! Già si sente, tuttavia, il richiamo dell’Engadina
5 in un tripudio di colori. E come se
ciò non bastasse, dopo aver superato il tunnel
dell’Albula, il viaggio prosegue in discesa fra
spettacolari manufatti con tunnel elicoidali e
percorsi a serpentina 4 fino al viadotto della
Landwasser 3 , che sbucando dal tunnel attraverso
la parete rocciosa a picco sembra
condurre nel nulla. Ma ecco che, poco dopo,
appare il viadotto di Solis 2 , che con i suoi 90
m d’altezza attraversa un nuovo precipizio. Il
treno parte da Coira, la città più antica della
Svizzera, e attraversa la regione a più alta densità
di castelli e fortezze di tutta Europa 1 .
L’intera tratta si snoda dunque attraverso
magnifici paesaggi punteggiati di capolavori
dell’arte ingegneristica. Il Bernina Express: un

capace di emozionare!

Sur 122 kilomètres, à travers 55 tunnels et sur

Prenez place et admirez: dans le Bernina Express,
vous pourrez goûter la beauté des Alpes. Depuis
Coire, la plus vieille ville de Suisse, le train
traverse la région la plus riche en châteaux de
toute l’Europe (photo 1 ). Le voyage se poursuit
à travers les sombres gorges du Schin pardessus
le viaduc de Solis 2 , de 90 mètres de
hauteur, pour déboucher dans la beauté sauvage
et romantique de la vallée de l’Albula.
Là, le train emprunte le viaduc mondialement
connu du Landwasser 3 qui s’enfonce en plein
milieu d’une paroi rocheuse abrupte. Passant
par de grandioses ouvrages artistiques, traversant
des tunnels hélicoïdaux 4 , le train
continue son ascension jusqu’au tunnel de
l’Albula, derrière lequel l’Engadine 5 s’étend
dans toute sa splendeur. C’est la salle des
fêtes des Alpes, c’est là aussi que se trouve la
mondaine cité de St. Moritz. Le Bernina Express
vous entraîne encore plus haut, longeant les
majestueux glaciers de la Bernina. Au Lago
Bianco 6 , vous pourrez ressentir l’immense
liberté des montagnes! Mais tout en bas, le
sud vous appelle 7 et ainsi, de lacet en lacet,
vous redescendez d’une altitude de 2200
mètres vers le Puschlav en empruntant le célèbre
viaduc hélicoïdal de Brusio 8 pour arriver
à Tirano 9 . Sur tout le trajet, vous rencontrez
ainsi des paysages d’une beauté à vous
couper le souffle et des chefs d’œuvre de l’art
de l’ingénierie. Le Bernina Express est un train
