novelis signs agreement to
supply cans to anheuser-Busch
Novelis Inc. signed a new multi­year
agreement to supply aluminium can
sheet to Anheuser­Busch. The agreement
becomes effective at the beginning
of 2010, when Novelis’ existing
supply contract with Anheuser­Busch
expires.
The agreement extends a long­running
relationship between Novelis
and Anheuser­Busch Inc., a wholly
owned subsidiary of Anheuser­Busch
InBev N.V./S.A. The contract covers
the supply of can body stock, can end
stock and can tab stock for use in the
production of aluminium beverage
containers. Terms of the agreement
were not disclosed; however, Novelis
acknowledged that the agreement
relates to Anheuser­Busch’s North
American operations only and provides
for volumes similar to the current
contract.

explore leading technology
solutions for c919 aircraft
Alcoa and Commercial Aircraft Corporation
of China Ltd (Comac) are
jointly exploring leading technology
solutions for the design and development
of China’s new, large passenger
jet, the C919. Through a technology
company news wordlwide
cooperation agreement, the two companies
are examining advanced aluminium
structural concepts, designs
and alloys to create the 190­seat aircraft.
The aircraft will be assembled
in Shanghai, but will source parts and
components globally.
A prototype of the C919 was displayed
at the Asian Aerospace International
Expo and Congress in
Hong Kong in September. There is
strong market interest for this aircraft
based on China’s expected long
term growth in global passenger traffic
demand. The C919 is expected to
take its first flight in 2014 and enter
service in 2016. Alcoa’s advanced alloys
and materials are used on China’s
first home­produced regional jet, the
ARJ21­700.

armenal launches full-scale
production of 7-micron foil
UC Rusal announced the launch of
full­scale production of ultra­thin 7micron
foil at its Armenal foil mill
in Armenia. Between 2007 and 2009
the facility invested over USD6m in
production development, with most
of the budget allocated to organise
production of thin foils, which are the
most popular in the global markets.
First lots of 7­micron foil have
been shipped. Armenal’s ultra­thin
