has been enlarged while that of raised bogs has been reduced. The occurrence of blanket bogs along
the western coast of Norway has been limited into two small areas in the coastal islands. The extent of
montane and submontane raised bogs in S.W. and S.E. Europe has also been reduced. When compiling
the present map we also took into account data and information about the scattered, small-scale
occurrences of particular mire types, e.g., the existence of oceanic raised bogs in Brittany even though
it was not possible to include these in the European vegetation map.
