Mechanical Department 56 Utmost precision required With its 35 employees, the mechanical department with round-the-clock production is an important part of Bartholet Maschinenbau AG. Parts are manufactured with the utmost precision. Rafael Marty moves the computer mouse with a practised hand. On the screen in the computer room of the Bartholet job order production, a rectangular 3D structure is turning as if it were floating weightless in space. “That is a gauge for the clamping of machine parts”, explains the multi-skilled mechanic. A week’s programming went into the screen display. “Looks good. It should work.” After that, it becomes serious. A first prototype will be produced on the CNC machine in a few minutes. After an initial inspection, Marty is satisfied. He will know more after the measurement of the gauge in the measuring room. The laser scanner captures around 900 measuring points. “Fits perfectly”, says Marty with satisfaction after the inspection. Series production of the gauge can now start. The department’s machine park has 40 machines, including high-speed cutters of the latest generation that mould the most complicated parts out of aluminium or chromium steel with utmost precision (in places, the tolerance level is only a thousandth of a millimetre) and at breathtaking speed. 35 professionals, primarily multi-skilled mechanics, work in mechanical production. They work around the clock in three-shift operation. Many parts are used for the handling robots that are manufactured in-house. The company‘s list of references includes renowned companies from the vacuum technology sector with the ultimate requirements. The machine park includes, among others, CNC band saws with cut monitoring, CNC pipe bending presses, CNC drilling machines, CNC borers/millers, CNC milling machines, CNC vertical and horizontal machining centres, CNC horizontal boring machines, CNC horizontal bed-type milling machines, CNC inclined-bed lathes, CNC head lathes and, for inspection, CNC 3D coordination measurement machines with probe system.
