not require its partner to purchase a licence, as other well-known
market players do. The reason for this is that production is not restricted
to a specific, patented process.
The investment that Kraiburg Austria needed to undertake at its
own facility in order to properly establish itself in the OTR tyre retreading
sector was comparatively low, reports Schutte. Moulds for the
manufacturing of tread segments had to be purchased, of course;
these cost as much as eighty thousand euros. Free capacity in the
company’s vulcanisation presses and compound mixing facilities
was, however, already available. As hardly any suitable envelopes
for the procure retreading of 57-inch OTR tyres were available on
the market, Kraiburg established and invested in envelope production
at its Geretsberg, Austria site parallel to the establishment of its
“Earthmover” business unit; it has been in operation since April
2009. These envelopes will not only be used in the new retreading
operations in Kuzbass – they will also be distributed as a regular
commercially available product. “These can now be purchased from
us,” comments the 25-year Kraiburg veteran Roland Schutte.
With the first OTR tyre retreading operation from Kraiburg
already set up, the materials delivered and an October production
start date anticipated, the question can be asked: what is the next
step? According to Roland Schutte a further project in Russia is already
in immediate planning; this time, the customer is involved in
