company is also well established all over Europe; the MAE range was<br />

initially distributed in Portugal, Spain, France, Germany and the UK,<br />

and today M.I.G. boasts wide coverage across the continent.<br />

Is there really a future for a family owned business in a global<br />

market? “I have to say of course! Our history taught us to react<br />

against the changes and challenges that come from old and new<br />

competitors by means of strong commitment in creativity, technology<br />

and innovation. Those are the elements that motivate us to continuously<br />

improve based on market trends, with an ultimate purpose of<br />

complete satisfaction of our customers,” says Alessandro Malatesta.<br />

“We have built up strong relationships with our distributors and<br />

we should mention that our success worldwide would perhaps not<br />

be so strong without the help of some long-term business partners,”<br />

adds Giampaolo Malatesta. “We work closely with our distributors to<br />

ensure we meet their own clients’ demands and react to market<br />

needs.”<br />

heute ein sehr breites Produktspektrum, aber man prüft dennoch immer<br />

wieder dessen Ausdehnung, zum Beispiel Envelopes für die großen<br />

OTR-Reifen herzustellen. Gianpaolo Malatesta: „Dieser Teil des<br />

Geschäftes könnte sehr wichtig werden, Kunden könnten uns auffordern,<br />

in dieses Segment einzusteigen. Und das wäre doch wieder eine<br />

neue und attraktive Herausforderung fürs Unternehmen.“<br />

More than 90 per cent of MAE production is now exported to global<br />

markets. Global sales have insulated the company from the ravages<br />

of the recession very effectively. While European sales have decreased<br />

in this last year due to the general reduction of transportation,<br />

increases in other markets have compensated for this loss.<br />

“Volume has not greatly changed during the crisis,” reports Giampaolo<br />

Malatesta. Future sales will be supported by a number of innovations<br />

that are in various stages of development. Although Alessandro<br />

Malatesta wants to keep details confidential for the moment, these<br />

will involve curing tubes and outer envelopes.<br />

Mr. Malatesta adds that while MAE already offers retreaders a<br />

very comprehensive product range, company management is considering<br />

the possibility of manufacturing OTR envelopes: “This part of<br />

the business could be very important,” says Giampaolo, “customers<br />

would like us to produce such an item, and it would be a new, attractive<br />

challenge for the company.”<br />
