facility. In addition, the new facility even contains sufficient space
for a second line that could again double output. Ferrari comments,
however, that at present there are no concrete plans to this effect.
Upon completing construction work on the mixing unit in July the
Marangoni Group could not only take advantage of a new and impressive
facility at its Ellerbrock site and markedly increase productivity.
At the same time the new mixing unit has had a noticeable impact
upon the roll the German subsidiary plays within the company
and upon the further development of high quality products.
The old Ellerbrock mixing facility had determined the pace of
operations – following a fire in 2003 that destroyed the retread and
Ringtread production facility, compound mixing was identified as a
bottleneck in the production process, and before last year’s mixing
unit fire between 20 and 35 per cent of compound was imported from
Italy. The German facility also was incapable of being autonomously
operated. Through the new unit’s significantly increased productivity
the situation has now been reversed. At present Ellerbrock itself
uses only around 85 per cent of the compound it produces. The excess
capacity will now thus be used either to supply the company’s
retread and Ringtread production at other facilities or sold to mould
cure retreading operators throughout Europe. The new mixing unit’s
capacity will, at any rate, be
optimally utilised.
This new role within the
company has, furthermore,
led to a general realignment
of pan-European logistics,
which Giuseppe Ferrari says
is now gradually being implemented.
While previously
the same products were delivered
from the logistics
centres in Germany and in
Ferentino near Rome, Ellerbrock
will play an even greater
role in the future. As the
Marangoni Retreading Systems
managing director discloses,
soon as much as 65
per cent of products should
be delivered from the Henstedt-Ulzburg
site, including
items shipped from Italy to
the German central warehouse
and then from there
distributed throughout much
of Europe. The principal
markets that will benefit from the resulting shorter delivery times will
be Scandinavia, eastern Europe and, most of all, the United Kingdom
and Ireland.
UK customers were previously supplied either directly from Italy
or from a warehouse in Newcastle under Lyme. In future the central
warehouse in Germany will take over the role of delivering to British
customers. Retreaders in the UK will of course continue to have the
same range available to them, if they – as usual – order directly

konnte die Marangoni-Gruppe nicht nur alles schön und neu machen
am Ellerbrock-Standort in Henstedt-Ulzburg und die Produktivität
der Anlage deutlich erhöhen. Gleichzeitig habe die neue Mischerei
deutliche Auswirkungen auf die Rolle der deutschen Tochtergesellschaft
im Konzern und auf die Weiterentwicklungen der
Qualitätsprodukte.
Da die alte Ellerbrock-Mischerei stets das Tempo der – nach einem
Feuer im November 2003 erneuerten – Laufstreifen- und Ringtread-Produktion
bestimmt hatte und als Engpass im industriellen
Prozess betrachtet wurde, kamen vor dem Brand der Mischerei im
vergangenen Jahr stets rund 20 bis 35 Prozent der Mischungen aus
Italien. Die Anlage im Norden Hamburgs konnte also nicht autark betrieben
werden. Durch die wesentlich höhere Produktivität der neuen
Mischerei hat sich die Situation nun umgekehrt. Aktuell werden
bei Ellerbrock nur rund 85 Prozent
der hergestellten Mischungen in
der eigenen Produktion gebraucht.
Die überschüssigen Kapazitäten
werden nun dazu genutzt, um entweder
die Laufstreifen- und Ringtread-Produktion
in anderen Produktionsstätten
zu speisen oder
aber Kunden in ganz Europa mit
Heißrunderneuerungsmischungen
zu beliefern. In jedem Fall wolle
man die durch die neue Mischerei
geschaffenen Kapazitäten zu einem
Optimum ausnutzen.
Diese neue Rolle im Unternehmen
hat außerdem zu einer allgemeinen
Neuausrichtung in der gesamteuropäischen
Logistik geführt,
