eScience is scientifi c research that to a large extent depends on the use of computers and modern information technology, for
example, weather forecasting, seismic monitoring, protein structuring, gene mapping, and astrophysics.
As computers have become larger and faster, eScience becomes increasingly important for all kinds of science, and therefore
the Faculty of Science at the University of Copenhagen has decided to offer a new graduate degree in eScience.
The eScience programme is for those students who through a Bachelor of Science degree (or similar engineering) degree have
a solid foundation in a specifi c scientifi c fi eld and who would like to use modern technology to create new scientifi c insights.
The programme is offered as an alternative to continuing in graduate study in the fi eld of your Bachelor´s. The idea is to mix
the use of advanced information technology to your original fi eld of study so that you, for example, can use advanced mathematical
models for simulation or to visualize large data sets.
The new master’s degree is offered in collaboration with all the departments in the Faculty of Science.
It will be based at the newly established eScience center.
The degree programme is internationally oriented and will be offered in English. A degree in eScience will open up
many opportunities both within high tech industry and academia including exciting PhD opportunities; for examples,
see www.escience.dk.
Application deadline and admission requirements
The new eScience programme will start autumn 2007 and the application deadline is
Monday 11 June 2007.
In general, the admission requirement is a Bachelor of Science that includes certain
mathematics and computer science courses, or a similar engineering degree. For details,
consult www.escience.dk. If you have different qualifi cations, it may still be possible to
enter the programme. It will also be possible to switch from another master’s programme
to the new eScience programme.
Further information
During May and early June there will be a series of information meetings: for time and
place, please refer to www.escience.dk or contact the Head of the eScience Programme,
Professor Eric Jul, phone +45 35 32 14 14, eric@diku.dk, or the Study Advisor, Niels Peter
Milthers, tlf. 35 32 42 22, nat-nsv@adm.ku.dk.
The new eScience degree is one of many new degree programmes offered
by the University of Copenhagen. Read more about similar programmes, for
example, the Bioinformatics Programme, at www.studier.ku.dk.
