Constructioncomponents are updated from time to time to make sure that they reflectthe current situation in construction including possible changes in constructionmethod, style and quality of the used construction materials.Weights are updated periodically (usually every 5-10 years). The collected prices are sorted out per type, respondent and region. Theyare then calculated in an elementary index and rescaled to a certain yearas the base year. Only matching prices from the same respondent and forthe same construction type are compared between two subsequent periods. For the calculation of a price development of one elementary component(the lowest level for which the weights are available) a geometricmean of the underlying elementary indices is calculated for a region. The calculated indices of the individual elementary components are aggregatedwith the help of the weighting structure and weighting patternof the different construction types to the indices of the major componentsand finally to the total index per construction type and per region. In afurther step, the regional indices are aggregated to the total index for thewhole country.Quality correctionsIt is very important that the price index reflect the price development forthe same construction component between two subsequent periods.77
