Output price indices are however also use as an important shorttermindicator to show the evolution of prices in the construction industry.Hence, the output price index is use in the following areas:Austria:- Deflation of building values in national accounts- Deflation of the production indices in constructionGermany:- Economic monitoring- Price development in building industry- Price adjustment of long lasting contracts- Deflation of the other economic values e.g. in building industrySwitzerland:- Price deflator for calculation of gross production volumes- Inflation indicator- Economic monitoring- Industry comparisons and observation- Economic analysis- Analysis of the competitive situation in the different markets involved inthe construction industry- Estimation of the prices in the planning phases of a construction projectwhen the prices have not been fixed either by tender or by contract.Main users of the outputprice indices forconstruction:Austria:• Construction enterprises in the country and abroad, insurancecompanies, real estate agents, tenants etc.• Ministries and politicians on different levels• The Austrian National Bank and The European Central Bank• Enterprises and their national and <strong>international</strong> trade associations• National research institutes• National accounts in Statistics Austria as a deflator67
