The differencebetween the two amounts wouldhave covered the basic cost of runningboth the paper and the website. Insteadone of them must now be closed down.CBS OBSERVER’s web-edition was introducedin September 2008, funded by atwo-year grant of just less than one millionDKR until August 2010 from CBS’ managementfunds (‘Ledelsespuljen’). One ofthe conditions for the grant was that thecontent of the newspaper be developedtowards more analysis and increased focuson national research-, education- and universitypolicy. Meanwhile cbsobserver.dkwas to develop as a day-to-day news servicesupplemented with blogs, video, podcasts and other forms of web based communication.The grant was withdrawn inthe fall of 2009 as part of a total restructuringof ‘Ledelsespuljen’.Both editions have their strengths andweaknesses, and CBS OBSERVER’s Boardof Directors is of the opinion that CBS’employees and students need both typesof information and now asks the readersfor their input on which of the two isindispensable.More on this in CBSummary page 19.Online or print?Come end of February either this paper, CBS OBSERVER,or the news-site cbsobserver.dk is to be shut downCBS OBSERVER’s editorial independenceremains undisputed, no matter which editionlives on.
