Abstract This thesis is a study of how Kulturministeriet (the Ministry of Culture) understands and talks about the concepts of cultural heritage, digitazation and digital dissemination, and how or if understandings of these concepts appear in practice on the National Museums webpage Natmus.dk. The analysis is tripartite. First part is a discourse analysis of three repports from Kulturministeriet. Laclau and Mouffes Discourse Theori is used in trying to define Kulturministeriets understanding and use of the concepts cultural heritage, digitazation and dissemination. Five discourses are identified; The Knowledge and Identity Discourse relating to cultural heritage. The Optimization Discourse and The Preservation Discourse relating to digitization. The Accessibility Discourse and The Dissemination Discourse relating to dissemination. Secondly an analysis of the National Museums webpage Natmus.dk is carried out. The analysis is based on Lisbeth Thorlacious' model for web communication. This shows that Natmus.dk is a webpage with a classic design were the communication predominantly takes place through written text with small photographic illustrations. Some of the illustrations have a zoom function and some texts are accompanied by videofilms instead of pictures. The last part is a comparative analysis. The results from the discourse analysis and the web analysis are compared to determine whether or not the discourses identified in the first analysis is visible in practice on Natmus.dk's webpage. It is concluded that only two of the five identified discourses are visible on Natmus.dk. The Dissemination discourse and to some extent the Knowledge and Identity discourse. 2
