From this three songs by Heise have been transfened.
In the 40s Else Brems made uound ten records and in
1955 one LP record with Schubert-and Brahms songs.
In the mid-fifties Mogens Wiildike edited m anthology
of three LP-records for "The Haydn Socrety", Masterpieces
ol Music before 1750. Here Else Brems sings
works by H.Schtitz, J.S.Bach, and G.F.Hiindel. On the
occasion of her 70th birthday, in 1978, an LP record
was brought out underthetiie, Else Brems sjnger songe
were taken the two complete Sh6h6rzade songs. In 1979
an LP-record was issued under the title Den mqrkelagte
Apart form the private recordings all the abovementioned
material can be found in "Statens Mediesamling"
at the Arhus City Library, from which the
staff readily lent me several of the recordings. My
thanks are due to Henning Trab and the staff of the
media-collection for their professional and gracious
help. Radio Denmark has kindly lent me the recordings
of the St. Mafthew's Passion, Saul. the Stabat Mater,
theAlto Rhapsody, and the hymn "In Still Silence Man
Must Tanl". My thanks are due to Bent Gronholdt for
his knd assistance. Radio Denmmk has also placed at
the disposal of the project a producer, Evan-Th.
Vestergaard, and two technicians, Niels Flensted and
Clemens Johansen, who have worked hard for many
hours to transfer the old recordings to modem DAItapes.
I am pilticultrly grateful for their efforts to
remove the tiresome noise of the old lacquer records
without ruining the musical quality.
Friends and colleagues have helped with the translations
of the texts: Willy Dfinhardt (from German into
Danish), Ib Flemming Hansen (from French into
Danish), Jacob Thomsen (from Latin into Danish), and
Hanne Carlsen Briiel (from Danish into English and
vlce-velsa).
I particulilly wish to thmk Jon Palle Buhl (Banister
of the Supreme Courl), administrator of Consul Ge.
orge Jorck and Mrs. Emna Jorck's Fund, for generous
financial support, and also Chdstian Lauritz-Jensen
of Frederik and Ema Kragh's Memorial Fund.
Finally I wish to thank Jesper Buhl from Danacord
records for his willingness to take on this project, and
