gla’s receptions of Ricoeur concerning the possible conflict between a Christological and a
creational guided approach to interpretation and theology.
"Reference" and Conclusion. A digression treats P. Bilde’s critique from a historical
critical point of view of three literary dissertations (Sv. Bjerg, K. Nielsen & O. Davidsen)
accusing these of leading to arbitrariness and lack of criticism. Under the impression of the
replies from Nielsen and Davidsen Bilde later on expresses his appreciation.
An explicated reference to the relationship between philosophy of religion and exegesis
follows, in which the entanglement of the disciplines is accentuated in connection with four
aspects of the exegetical work of interpretation: subject and object, basis of methods and criteria,
purpose and lastly method. Finally an independent sketch of an exegetical procedure is
suggested, in which the interpreter continuously draws closer to the meaning and the world of
the text by familiarising her-/himself with the text through a hermeneutical spiral movement.
In this way interpretation becomes what I characterise as a sanctification of the exegete.
Concluding, the philosophy of religion is pointed to as the field for the complex correlation
between philosophy and exegesis, where philosophy "uncovers" the conceptual indwelling of
exegesis, and exegesis makes its texts exercise critique of this philosophical indwelledness.
