10. Summary
This research is about, how solidarity at the work place has an influence on integration of
people with reduced working abilities. In spite of massive efforts by the government and a
relative low unemployment, the integration of people, that cannot live up to effectivity demands
of the labour market, is slow.
Barriers as regard efforts of integration can be found at different levels, but this research’s
focus is on companies, as it is here, that integration should occur. In connection with the more
active policy of employment measures in the past years, it is the governments wish, that companies
should take a social responsibility and therefore employ people with reduced working
abilities. This task is at present voluntary, so the companies must either see the advantages of
being tolerant towards this group or feel a moral duty. We think that solidarity with people
with reduced working abilities is decisive, for whether it is possible to provide them with employment.
The labour market is affected by globalization, rising competition and technological development,
which result in new demands on the companies’ organisation of work, production
forms and therefore also to the workforce. The integration process is therefore also dependant
on the conditions of companies.
We have carried out a qualitative research, of how solidarity looks from four different companies
to show how specific conditions/circumstances affect solidarity. We have interviewed
leaders, shop stewards and workers at these companies, in order to achieve as differentiated
picture of solidarity as possible and uncover its importance for the integration process. The
aim is to identify the means that promote integration of people with reduced working abilities
in the labour market.
To illustrate the actual influence of solidarity, and thereby gain a deeper insight into the problem
area connected to the problem formulation, we have included different theories about
integration and solidarity. Therefore we look at which kind of solidarity that should exist at
the work place in order to integrate people with reduced working abilities. In addition to this
