In accordance with § 4 of the Law of the 20th May 1882, concerning<br />

measures to be adopted in respect to malignant contagious diseases amongst d<strong>om</strong>estic<br />

animals, and the Authority given to the Chief Surgeon of the Civil Veterinary<br />

Department by virtue of a Royal Decree of 11th July of the current year, in<br />

accordance with the said Law, the following instructions approved of by the<br />

H<strong>om</strong>e Department have been decided upon.<br />

Regulations<br />

to be followed in respect to Anthrax in D<strong>om</strong>estic Animals.<br />

§ 1.<br />

When a d<strong>om</strong>estic animal is presumed to be attacked by anthrax, it must<br />

at once be isolated fr<strong>om</strong> healthy animals. Isolation is best effected by letting<br />

the sick animal remain in that place, in which it has bec<strong>om</strong>e ill, and removing<br />

the healthy animals to another building, or in s<strong>om</strong>e satisfactory manner separate<br />

these fr<strong>om</strong> the affected animal in the same building, or by removing the<br />

sick animal to s<strong>om</strong>e place shut off fr<strong>om</strong> intruders and all other animals.<br />

Special attention must be directed to preventing other animals, such as<br />

pigs, dogs, eats, poultry and birds fr<strong>om</strong> c<strong>om</strong>ing in contact with the sick animal<br />

or its secretions, or with objects that have been in contact with the animal.<br />

Those people who tend the affected animal ought not to c<strong>om</strong>e in contact with<br />

other d<strong>om</strong>estic animals.<br />

§ 2.<br />

Those animals which have been together with the affected animal must be<br />

carefully examined in reference to the condition of their health, and should<br />

they show any signs of illness which may arouse any suspicion of the presence<br />

of anthrax, they shall be treated as if they were attacked by the disease.
