The Piggery ought to be cleansed in the following manner. After removing<br />

and burning or burying all litter, all worthless woodwork with which the sick<br />

animal has been in contact ought to be burnt Wooden flooring ought to be torn up<br />

and burnt. The packing beneath it should be carted away and ploughed down on<br />

s<strong>om</strong>e spot not frequented by pigs. If the flooring was of concrete it ought to<br />

be thoroughly washed and thereafter disinfected. The entire piggery and sty<br />

or sties ought also to be disinfected. Articles employed in connection with<br />

the animal ought to be washed in boiling water and disinfected. The earth<br />

around the piggery ought to be dug up and carted away.<br />

For disinfecting purposes a mixture ought to be used consisting of 4 p.c.<br />

crude carbolic acid and 2 p.c. crude muriatie acid. Articles that cannot<br />

withstand muriatie acid, may be boiled or disinfected with solution of chloride<br />

of lime ç.1_0 p.c.) or solution of carbolic acid (5 p.c.) or a solution or corrosive<br />

sublimate A. per thousand). This latter is excessively poisonous and ought only<br />

to be employed by Veterinary Surgeons.<br />

After disinfection has taken place the piggery ought to be thoroughly<br />

aired and thereafter, if needful, be whitewashed anew.<br />

The Veterinary Surgeon shall at once report to the Public Authorities<br />

concerned, and to the Chief Surgeon of the Civil Veterinary Department in<br />

Christiania, all cases of Swine fever which may corne under his notice.
