Water from Greenland
to consumers worldwide
In a year, if all goes well, consumers will be able to unscrew the lid of
a bottle of prestigious, Greenlandic water

Up to 60,000 year-old melt water
from Greenland’s inland ice! Crystal
clear spring water from underground
springs! Surface water from pure,
remote lakes!
Greenland’s water resources are not
only enormous and easily accessible;
the taste and the purity of the water
are also unique. These are four important
arguments for starting a commercial
production of exclusive, bottled
water in Greenland. Preparations are
already under way.
If all goes well, the first bottle filled
with Greenlandic water will leave
the bottling plant within a year.

ice and to sell water for production
purposes. Greenland Spring Water
ApS is also planning to start a longawaited
spring water production in
Qeqertarsuaq.
Two other companies are already
producing Greenlandic water. But
in these cases, the water is part of
another product. For several years,
Greenland Ice Cap Production A/S has
produced ice cubes which are used,
for example, by the royal family in
Denmark and at present the company
is experiencing great success supplying
melt water for the Canadianproduced
Siku Vodka, where the ice
is melted together with the alcohol at
a distillery in Holland. And in Narsaq,
Greenland’s first micro-brewery,

An experience
Distances to the world markets are
enormous, so considerable transport
costs are involved with production
and export of Greenlandic ice and
water. Companies are therefore focusing
at first on the exclusive markets.
And there are plenty of good reasons.
Or, as owner of Greenland Ice Water,
says:
- This is the purest water in the world.
It is softer and sweeter than any
other water. But we mustn’t sell it for
everyday use. We should sell water
that is to be enjoyed occasionally. We
must sell an experience, offers Morten
Kelsen, who has a concession for an
area at the mouth of the Ice Fjord in
Ilulissat. Here, many thousand yearold
ice-floes are fished up by fishermen
and transported ashore. From
Narsaq a freezer load equal to 24,000
litres of melt water is sent across
the North Atlantic to be filled into
bottles by Danish Bottling Company
in Brande in Jutland. At a later date
it is the intention to melt the water
in Ilulissat, thus creating jobs in the
town.

In Qeqertarsuaq, Greenland Spring
Water ApS has turned its attention
to the pure, virginal springs on Disko
Island, from which the company has a
