Executive Summary 3.2. Cooperation between the public and private sectors (public procurement, PPP – public private partnership, social innovations) Tackling societal challenges, such as an aging population, migration, energy, environment, social and health systems, or solutions to new customer demands through and by cooperation with CCIs. Abroad there are programmes implemented to stimulate innovative solutions and support of SMEs through public procurement. Many innovative solutions can also help to streamline public services. 3.3. Tourism, branding Support of cooperation between CCIs and tourism entities, the use of monuments, crafts, design, film, literature and other sectors at national and regional levels. From foreign experience we can cite the example of the City of Vienna, where important institutions – galleries, museums – are involved by their activities and expertise in the development of the strategies of tourism, economy, and innovation, and are members of the City Council for Tourism. A similar approach at the level of cities and the state is missing in the CR. CCIs should play an important role also in creating branding of the CR. In addition to the national level, all recommendations relate also to the local/regional level. It is necessary to emphasize the need to support the creation and production in the place of their origin. Activities at the local level contribute significantly also to building the local cultural identity, smart specialization and branding. This applies, for example, to organizing events (exhibitions, fairs, markets, festivals, etc.) presenting local producers and businesses, and also activities aimed at mapping the local successes and good practice examples and their full utilization also in the context of and in cooperation with the local educational structure, or the establishment and support of community media (TV and radio) and the like. The need for promotion of regional products (e.g. crafts) through local brands is also important. In addition to marketing and brands, it is necessary to support also the sale/marketing of all domestic products and services. In some EU countries local production is supported through e.g. the determination of a certain percentage for its purchasing within retail chains, which spurs the other local production and investments. 582
