Executive Summary
Sectorial studies have been prepared on the basis of a uniform concept comprising
of the following parts: Basic structure, status and conditions; Economic data and
performance indicators; Foreign trends; Strengths and weaknesses; Needs; Drafts of
strategic projects. The studies start with a list of activities to highlight the general
scope of the given industry and include an attachment where the activities are defined
by four-digit codes of the economic activity classification according to CZ-NACE.
A number of authors participated in the sector studies – experts in the given sectors,
many of whom are representatives of umbrella or professional organizations.
In addition to the sectorial studies Volume II also contains a special chapter dedicated
to creative incubators. It discusses the role of business incubators, the specific
needs that accompany the start-ups, i.e. starting companies in CCIs, and identifies
various models of creative incubators. As an international example it provides the
support of creative incubators in Estonia and in detail describes the goals and also
the initiatives already launched, places and services in the Czech Republic (Pilsen –
DEPO2015/Centre for Creative Entrepreneurship in Pilsen 2 , the Creative Centre Brno 3 ,
the Centre of Creative Industries in Zlín 4 , and the Creative Incubator of the town of
Písek – Sladovna, o.p.s. (Sladovna, public-benefit company) 5 .
The introduction of the second volume is devoted to an overall summary of all sectorial
studies and apart from a brief overview of the most important features and
topics of the industries, the summary of the knowledge of the available statistical
data, the most important international trends, and strengths and weaknesses across
sectors in the CR, also includes the theses of the CCI support strategy in the CR.
These theses attempt to cover all identified needs across sectors.
A brief overview of the situation and needs of individual CCIs
in the CR
The CCI potential is undoubtedly high in the CR and is based mainly on the historical
anchoring of the culture given by rich infrastructure, whether it is the physical
background or cultural traditions, professional activities and also the high level of
involvement and participation of citizens in cultural events, as evidenced by the
relatively high popularity of domestic production (e.g. Czech films, music, literature,
theatre and also the new circus). Some industries (design, crafts, digital games, and
the digital content industry) are experiencing a rapid growth of audiences/customers
and also the actors themselves.
